SPY OPTICS New Zealand: Night Mission at The Remarkables
We’re deep into production on our latest film project, and if our second day of filming is anything to go by, this one’s going to turn heads. For this mission, we packed the gear, rallied the crew, and made our way to a location that needs no introduction: The Remarkables Ski Field.
Only this time, we weren’t rolling up during regular hours.
The resort was closed. The sun was setting. And we were just getting started.
Golden Hour Send-Off
After loading the crew and gear onto snowmobiles and catching a final lift up the mountain, we found ourselves alone on the slopes—no crowds, no lift lines, just untouched terrain and golden light dripping over the peaks.
With daylight burning, our Spy Optics NZ snowboard team didn’t waste a second. They dropped straight into the jump line, sending it big with the kind of commitment and flow that makes everything else fade away. The light was perfect. The vibe was electric. It was one of those sessions where everything just clicks.
There’s something surreal about hitting park features as the sun dips below the horizon—when the shadows grow longer, the mountains turn pink, and the only sound is snow crunching under your boots and boards hitting the lip.
Lights On, Mission Goes Dark
As the last light disappeared, it was time for phase two.
We powered up the generators, fired up the portable lights, and turned a quiet alpine evening into a full-blown night shoot. Under the harsh glow of floodlights and the soft hum of snowmobiles in the background, the crew turned their attention to the jib zone.
Rails, wall rides, and custom features were dialed in, and the team kept the momentum going well into the evening. Whether it was technical tricks or creative lines, every hit brought something new—and it all looked next-level under lights. Shooting in the dark brings a different kind of energy. It’s gritty, raw, and real. Every trick is earned. Every shot is hard-fought.
You could feel the determination. The crew was cold, tired, and running on stoke—and still pushing harder with each take. Headlamps lit the drop-ins. Shadows danced off the rails. And behind every camera was someone capturing the magic that only happens when you combine passion with preparation.
Why We Do It
This film project is more than just a highlight reel—it’s a showcase of the NZ snowboard scene at its best. It’s about style, creativity, resilience, and community. It’s about what happens when you give a tight crew the space to experiment, express, and evolve.
And for Spy Optics NZ, it’s about backing the athletes who live for moments like this—the ones who hike back up for one more hit, who wait out weather windows, who keep the stoke high even when the temps drop low. These are the riders who embody everything our brand stands for.
We’ve still got more filming ahead, and we’re beyond hyped to share the final cut with you soon. But for now, we’ll let this session speak for itself.
